Enthusiastic citizens engage in Run4Health @Blodomloppet
Over 400 people came by the Uppsala University/EIT Health tent during the street race "Blodomloppet" in Uppsala on 17 May to receive health tests and lifestyle advice by students that had been trained to guide citizens along the way towards better health in the frame of the EIT Health initiative Run4Health.
For the second year, the Run4Health initiative at the famous Uppsala street race "Blodomloppet" was a success! Many runners and spectators, including a high amount of curious children eager to learn about healthy living, came by the Uppsala University and EIT Health tent.
The trained Run4Health students from Uppsala University measured the participants' blood pressure and levels of blood glucose and answered the children's many questions on why it is important to eat fruits and vegetables, and the importance of the nice bacteria in their guts.
Knowledge, joy and enthusiasm on healthy living was spread widely during the whole afternoon and evening.
– It is our duty to spread knowledge and provide tools for every person to break unhealthy habits. This requires interprofessional collaboration, and during spring our students have planned their activity within the framework of Uppsala University's specially designed course To meet health challenges with citizenship and interprofessional collaboration, says Helena Grönqvist, course leader at Uppsala University.
– The collaboration with EIT Health brings us completely new opportunities to develop educational efforts where students can team up across traditional education boundaries. Within the Run4Health concept, students - in collaboration with industry, society and citizens - can share their knowledge, but also gather ideas that provide opportunities to create innovative solutions to healthrelated challenges, says Catharina Svensson, Professor and EIT Health Campus Coordinator at Uppsala University.
On 18 August, Karolinska Institutet will be present with the Run4Health concept during the Stockholm’s Midnattsloppet, as will the University of Copenhagen at the Copenhagen's Cultural night (Kulturnatten) on 12 October 2018.
