Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.5 billion.
SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se) is a Swedish national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is hosted by four Swedish universities (Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University) and collaborates with several other universities.
The position as a postdoctoral fellow is at the SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se) in the groups of Dr. Sebastian Deindl (http://www.deindl-lab.com) and Dr. Ylva Ivarsson (http://www.kemi.uu.se/research/biochemistry/ivarsson-group/). The project is focused on characterizing the interactome of chromatin-associated proteins.
Duties: In this project we will take an innovative approach to characterize the interactome of a chromatin-associated protein. The postdoctoral researcher will complement these studies with biophysical and functional characterizations of interaction partners.
- PhD in a suitable subject such as biochemistry, biophysics or similar. The PhD degree should have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended on special circumstances, such as prolonged periods of illness, parental leave, military service, union duties and others of similar character.
- Excellent skills in protein biochemistry and purification
- Established expertise in biophysical affinity determinations (e.g. ITC)
We emphasize personal skills and attributes such as analytical ability, conscientiousness, scientific creativity, ability to communicate reasoning clearly and coherently as well as the ability to accept criticism and adapt accordingly. In this case, we place particular weight on the ability to work as part of a team. The applicant should be fluent in English as the research is conducted in an international environment.
- Knowledge in protein bioinformatics
- Experience in the analysis of large-scale functional proteomics datasets
- Expertise in the analysis of biological networks.
Assessment criteria: To be qualified for an appointment as a postdoctoral fellow you must hold a doctorate or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate, and have completed the degree within three years before the application deadline. In special circumstances, the PhD can have been completed earlier, including leave of absence due to sickness, parental leave, etc.
A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must possess the personal capabilities necessary to carry out fully the duties of the appointment. Greater emphasis will be placed on the quality of individual scientific publications than on the number of publications, and the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skills.
The postdoctoral candidate will be chosen based on a qualitative overall assessment of his or her scientific skills and his or her ability to implement and develop project tasks and to contribute to a positive development of the project.
The application must include a CV, full publication list, copies of diplomas and certificates, contact details of two references, and a personal letter including a short description of research interests.
Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
