The Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences carries out research within a row different areas and education in biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, toxicology and pharmacometrics. More information about the department and its activities can be found at www.farmbio.uu.se
Duties/Project description: The overall aim of this project is to identify and characterize novel peptides that for example are involved in the mechanisms underlying the ontogeny of obesity and the metabolic syndrome. This will be done by using a mass spectrometry-based peptidomics approach and other molecular/biochemical methods focusing on endocrine adipose tissue, other peripheral organs, and brain by integrating human and animal studies.
Requirements: The applicant should have MSc degree in a relevant area (e.g. Pharmacy, Biomedicine, Chemistry, or Molecular biology). Experience in mass spectrometry, peptidomics, bioinformatics, or experimental toxicological/biomedical research is desirable. Excellent skills in oral and written English are required. Good skills in Swedish are desirable.
We intend to recruit the candidate who, in an assessment of motivation, competence, skill and documented qualifications, is most deemed to be the best person to carry out and develop the project.
The successful applicant will be supported by an employment as a PhD student for 4 full years and primarily engage in research. Other work at the Department such as teaching and administration can optionally be included (max 20%).
