The Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Uppsala University wishes to appoint two doctoral candidates in Scandinavian and/or Global Archaeology across any time period, but especially in Scandinavian prehistory, the archaeology of sub-Saharan Africa, or the archaeology of the Pacific. The department has an active, integrated research culture with expertise in a series of cross-cutting themes that include the archaeology of cult; urban societies; war, conflict and force; historical ecology; and critical heritage studies. The department is also a leading centre for GIS-based landscape analysis, and has strong research links with many other departments and faculties at Uppsala, including linguistics, human genetics, art history, geography, and earth sciences, and with University and county museums. Duties/Project description: Post-graduate training encompasses four years. PhD students are expected to study full-time and to actively participate in the activities of the department. Administrative or teaching duties up to 20% at the department may be included, in which case the employment period will be extended.
Requirements: The successful applicant to postgraduate studies in Archaeology at Uppsala University has a) a first degree encompassing at least 180 credits, b) has passed and completed the undergraduate courses A, B and C in Archaeology, and c) has been awarded a degree at advanced level with a major in Archaeology. An applicant may also be considered qualified if s/he has acquired the corresponding competence in other ways.
Application: The application should include copies of a Master thesis or equivalent, a brief CV, exam certificates, a research plan of c. 4-5 pages, and any publications.
