More information on workshop content:
On Day 1, we will focus on using online tools such as language corpora for editing academic texts and improving one's written proficiency in English. This includes aspects such as improving vocabulary and phrasing, increasing formality, using correct grammar, and using punctuation correctly. The main goal of this part of the workshop is to show the participants how to edit their own writing using these tools. Everyone will be asked to bring a writing sample of their own that they can use as material.

On Day 2, we will focus on the genre of popular science writing in English, including a discussion of how this differs from academic writing. Many researchers find it very challenging to present their research to a general public in a way that is both engaging and comprehensible. Nevertheless, popular science descriptions of research projects are frequently required, and describing one's research for those not in the field is an important aspect of grant writing. In the workshop, participants will go over sample texts and/or their own texts, making use of the tools they have learned to use on Day 1. The focus is on writing texts in clear, correct, and genre-appropriate English that convey information about one's research in a way that is comprehensible and interesting to a general public.
