Entry Requirements: 80 credits in biology equivalent to the basic course in biology within the Bachelor Programme in Biology/Molecular Biology.

About the course:

All chemicals can be dangerous in high enough doses. This course will provide you with the knowledge to understand and explain when, where and how chemicals and pharmaceuticals become toxic. The course mixes lectures with lab training and seminars to cover the following aspects: a) how chemicals are absorbed, metabolised and eliminated from the body, b) the importance of different organs for detoxification of chemicals, c) neurological and endocrinological effects of chemicals, d) developmental biology; effects of environmental toxins and pharmaceuticals, e) general genetic test methods to detect genetically induced damages. The course also includes study visits to places where toxicologists work.
