30 credits in science/engineering/pharmacy/medicine.

Learning outcomes

After a successfully completed course, the student should be able to:

  • choose, prepare, interpret and use cost estimates as a basis for the different situations in an industrial company,
  • interpret financial statements and other financial reports of industrial companies, including the income statement, the balance sheet, the cash flow statement and key measures in these,
  • describe how the results control, activity control, people control and cultural control can be dealt with in an industrial company,
  • design different combinations of systems for management control for an industrial company in the student's field of study,
  • briefly explain how business operations, management, organisation and strategic planning function in an industrial company.

Content

Cost-volume-profit analysis, product costing, investment analysis, accounting and bookkeeping, budgeting, financing, financial analysis, and management control are discussed as support for and a background to decision-making. Insights into the structure of businesses, entrepreneurship, project management, production, organisation, management and marketing gives an understanding of the industrial company's condition.

Instruction

Lectures, exercises, seminars and tutorials.

Assessment

Written exam (5 credits). Written assignments and a seminar give bonus points at the regular exam and the first re-examination of the course section.

Other directives

The course may not be included in a degree together with any of the following courses: 1TE728 Industrial Management and 2FE025 Business Studies, Basic Course A/B.
