Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be within engineering, science or the social sciences. Also required is Wind Power Development and Management, 15 credits.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • analyse rules, regulations and permission practice related to wind energy development
  • account for environmental impacts of wind energy utilisation, opposing interests and acceptance of wind power projects
  • account for and analyse financial incentives related to wind power projects
  • evaluate social relevance and ethical consideration in wind power development
  • design and execute a consultation meeting based on current research findings and industry experience for a wind farm

account for and draw conclusions of fundamental theory in spatial planning for wind energy development

Content

The course covers theory and application of spatial planning for wind energy development and wind power projects. Local, regional and national regulations connected to permitting processes are studied. The importance of good communication and acceptance among all stakeholders are practiced in a role play. Financial incentives and environmental considerations are evaluated for their potential effects on the execution of a wind power project. A role play of a consultation meeting for a proposed wind farm will be conducted as well as evaluation of social relevance and ethical considerations of wind power development.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, role playand group work.

Assessment

Written hand-in assignments, seminars, role play and oral presentation (3 credits). Oral examination (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The course cannot be included in the same degree as 1GV141.
