Wind Power Development and Management.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for the components, structure and function of the power grid, as well as discuss plausible outcomes of breakdowns and failures,
- explain how wind power is connected to the power grid and justify why the conditions for the power supply of wind power are designed as they are,
- analyse the consequences of the integration of wind power into the power system with a focus on power grids,
- explain how the electricity trading system works in the Nordic market and analyse market consequences of the integration of wind power.
Content
The structure of the power grid and the role of wind power in the electricity power system. Technical aspects of integration, such as network impact of different connectivity technologies. Power quality, regulatory framework and conditions for use of, and connection to the power grid (Grid Codes). Electricity trading.
Instruction
Lectures and seminars.
Assessment
Written assignments (3.0 credits) and written exam (2.0 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
Other directives
The course may not be included in a degree together with 1TE730, Turbine Efficiency and Grid Integration.
