About the course

Regardless of what area of biology you work in, you will be swamped by data and information, and some computer and data processing skills will be useful. This course gives you hands-on instructions and experience with three popular and open tools (Perl, MySQL, R) that are widely used: how to install and configure them, and how to use them together to solve real biological problems from data handling to the final graph.

The course is aimed at the kind or problems encountered in systematics, but the problems are quite generally encountered, e.g., handling large amounts of sequence data, alignments, public databases, and phylogenetic trees.

Outline for distance course: The course has no mandatory meeting. Teaching takes place through Zoom meetings/lectures, email and various course forums. Access to a computer with a stable internet connection and a web camera is required. The exam is web-based.
