About the course:
What is the Universe made of? Is it infinite? Is the Universe eternal, or did it have a beginning? Is it part of a vast multiverse? Is the Universe fine-tuned? How can we gain knowledge about such issues and which are the possible answers?
Cosmology aims to understand the origin, evolution, future and structure of the Universe as a whole. Such issues have been discussed by philosophers, theologians and physicists throughout history. Based on the empirical information in contemporary cosmological research, this interdisciplinary course addresses such central issues in cosmology from the perspective of modern physics, philosophy and philosophy of religion. With reference to the ongoing debate within and between these fields of research, the course introduces concepts, arguments and results from all three disciplines.
