Why are 9-year olds in the 2020's buying anti-age skincare?
My project concerns the Swedish beauty economy following the economic crisis of the 1970's. I am interested in how women were shaped as consumers in an increasingly visual culture, not primarily as homemakers but as employees. My aim is to explain how and why we ended up with intricate skincare routines, how cosmetic procedures became mainstream and how this has impacted the construction of femininity over the past 50 years.
