Short presentation
I teach Computer Graphics and Scientific Visualisation.
My research interests are mainly about hand written text recognition and face recognition.
Biography
Biography: I received a PhD in Computerised Image processing at Uppsala university in 2004, where computer graphics, mathematics, parallel programming and visualisation were important parts of the PhD studies. Since then I was working half time at UPPMAX as an application expert in scientific visualisation for 9 years. In 2011 I spent one year at IIT, CNR, Pisa in Italy as an ERCIM fellow and after that I received a full time position as associate professor at Uppsala University. My recent research has focused on computer vision and image processing, especially for applications in microscopy, aerial photography and hand written text recognition. I have now a postdoc and a PhD student that are focusing on such things as scribe identification and semi automatic transcription of medieval documents using a combination of word spotting and visualisation techniques.
I am a member of the mentoring network.
What teaching and learning activities (for instance, PBL, supervision, tutorials, lectures) do you usually use in teaching classes?
Nowadays I usually teach giving lectures but I also sometimes do practicals (labs) using computers. Moreover, I give small workshops for UPPMAX. I also supervise a handful of students every year for their bachelor or master thesis.
What programmes/elective courses and levels (basic, advanced, research) do you usually teach?
I teach the advanced level courses Computer Graphics and Visualisation in English for different programs and also master students.
This is in it for me as a mentor.
To reflect over and develop the teaching is both fun and an important thing to do. To help other teachers with this is very rewarding and something I gladly devote time to.
Research
On going project: Together with Raphaela Heil (PhD student) we are focusing on such things as scribe identification and semi automatic transcription of stenography and medieval documents using a combination of AI and Image Processing techniques. I also work in a face recognition project for the city of Stockholm and a projectet called EB-CRIME (Internationellt Centrum för Evidensbaserad Straffrätt).
