Electricity networks

New and better components in the electricity system build on electrical engineering, materials science and power electronics. In these areas, the University has research on interactions between the electricity network and hydropower generators, friction reduction in electrical contacts, the durability of cable insulation, and diamonds for new power electronics. There is also research on cybersecurity, communications and artificial intelligence (AI), areas of great relevance to the development of a more digitalised and flexible electricity network.

Uppsala University works with KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the business sector in the centre of excellence Swedish Centre for Smart Grids and Energy Storage (SweGRIDS).
