About the course
A Lie group is a smooth manifold with a compatible group structure. In this course we develop a general theory of Lie groups and study several families of matrix groups, that is closed subgroups of the general linear group of complex square matrices. We investigate how the topological properties of a Lie group interact with the group structure. We also learn how the properties of a Lie group are reflected in its Lie algebra.
