About the course
This course is a broadening and deepening of the cultural-historical phenomena you encountered in the course Ancient Near East: Introduction (or equivalent course). Through a series of seminars, we look at different aspects of how religious beliefs came to influence people in Mesopotamian cultures. Among other things, we look at the composition, appearance and central notions of the divine world, how the gods affected life in the world of the living and in the hereafter, where mortals were believed to live on. A look at surrounding areas shows common features and peculiarities of the belief systems of various peoples who lived in this region during the last millennia before the turn of our era.
