Entry requirements

Academic requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university.

Also required is 90 credits in psychology with at least 7,5 credits in methods and statistics.

Language requirements

Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. This requirement can be met either by achieving the required score on an internationally recognised test, or by previous upper secondary or university studies in some countries. Aims

This programme aims to provide a broad and in-depth knowledge in the field of psychology. It is a research-focused programme including the opportunity to do an internship in a research group. While the focus is on basic research, special attention is paid to how such research can address different aspects of sustainability in current societal challenges. The programme prepares students for doctoral studies or professional careers within government, organizations, and business, internationally or nationally.

Layout of the programme

The programme covers two years and 120 credits:

The first semester consists of four mandatory courses, each amount to 7,5 credits: cognition and perception and emotion and biological psychology and two method courses.

The second semester consists of two mandatory courses in developmental psychology and clinical psychology (each amount to 7,5 credits) and elective courses in psychology (15 credits), or as an alternative course of study: 15 credits elective courses in psychology and a thesis (15 credits).

The third semester consists of elective courses that amount to 30 credits where one can either choose an internship (15 credits) and elective courses in psychology or interdisciplinary courses at other departments of Uppsala University or all 30 credits of elective courses.

The fourth semester focuses on the Master's thesis course (30 credits).

Instruction

Courses are taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and training of practical skills in scientific work. Written and oral presentations are central parts of the courses

Degree

The programme leads to the degree of Master of Science (120 credits) with Psychology as the main field of study. After one year of study, it is possible to obtain a degree of Master of Science (60 credits).

The two-year Master's degree is obtained after completing course requirements of 120 credits. 30 credits may consist of first-cycle courses. At least 60 credits must be within the main field of study. A thesis of at least 30 credits in the main field must be included.

The one-year Master's degree is obtained after completing course requirements of 60 credits. 15 credits may consist of first-cycle courses. At least 30 credits must be within the mainr field of study. A thesis of at least 15 credits in the main field must be included.
