Entry requirements
At least 135 passed credits within physiotherapy programme or at least 112.5 credits within physician programme. Knowledge is required in anatomy, physiology and orthopaedics. In case of a vacancy and after individual review also open for e.g. physical education teacher, nurses and orthopaedic engineers.
Learning outcomes
The course intends to provide advanced knowledge of the medical field related to physical activity and sports. The course should provide knowledge how to prevent and rehabilitate physical exercise and sports injuries in children and adult.
After the course, the student should be able to:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1. describe in writing the principles of prevention of muscle and skeleton injuries related to physical exercise and sports
2. give examples of adequate examination and treatment of muscle and skeleton injuries related to physical exercise and sports.
3. mention the importance of the diet when going in for sports
4. Describe in writing the importance of recovery in physical training
EVALUATION ABILITY AND ATTITUDES
5. choose adequate examination methods for muscle and skeleton injuries related to physical exercise and sports.
Content
Sports traumatology and strain injuries
Exercise physiology and exercise theory
Examination of injuries related to sports and exercise
Rehabilitation of individuals with injuries related to sports and exercise
Prevention of sports injuries
The importance of the diet in sports
Instruction
The course is carried out as a distance course.
The teaching is given in the form of lectures, practical demonstrations and own field studies. Compulsory participation in practical parts
Assessment
Passing the course requires: passed written examination passed advanced assignment including review of other course participant's advanced assignment
In the written examination, aim 1-3 and 5 is examined
Students who have not passed the examination have a right to attend 4 additional examinations (i.e. 5 examinations in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination.
