Entry requirements
Biology 80 credits, equivalent to basic courses in biology within the Bachelor programme in biology.
Learning outcomes
The general aims of the course are to give the students knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of their own body. On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe how tobacco, drugs and alcohol affect the human body
- account for diet related implications for health of humans
- describe the series of events that are initiated with sexual intercourse and ends with the delivery of the baby
- account for the regulations around, and consequences of, sexually transmitted diseases
- account for how to give first aid
Content
* Structure and function of a number of body/organ systems: The nervous system, circulatory organs, endocrine organs, reproductive organs, digestive tract and respiratory organs.
* Effects of tobacco, drugs and alcohol on different organs.
* Venereal diseases
* First aid
Instruction
The teaching is given in the form of lectures and seminars.
Assessment
In the beginning of the course, by agreement with the students, it is decided whether to have a written or an oral examination.
