General provisions
The course is included in the X-ray Nursing Programme, semester 1, and contains 12 credits theory and 3 credits clinical practice.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to
1. Describe the basic concepts within radiography, define the vocational branch of radiography and describe the history and the philosophical basis of nursing.
2. Identify the basic skeleton anatomy and describe the basic examination methodology at skeleton examinations.
3. Describe and understand the basics in X-ray radiation, the risks at the use of radiation, principles and methods in radiation protection and describe the structure of the X-ray tube, electricity safety and patient record system.
4. Apply the nursing care process within the radiological examinations.
5. Give examples of ethical, gender, diversity - and equality aspects in the nursing and describe the concepts of stress, coping and caring.
6. Describe and explain the organisation and legislation of the health care.
7. Apply principals of general nursing care such as personal hygiene, making beds and patient lifting techniques.
8. Be able to communicate with patients and staff in an adequate way and show respect for the patient's integrity and autonomy.

Lectures, group assignment, role plays, independent study assignments, seminars and web - based teaching, placement, practical exercises in examination methodology, picture analysis and laboratory sessions in radiation protection, X-ray technique and patient cases
Assessment
Examination takes place continuously during the course in the form of written and oral presentations both individually and in groups. The examination includes also assessment of active participation and approved achievements at the clinical practice. The course is completed with a written examination.
Student failing examination the first time is allowed 4 re-examinations.(=in total 5 examinations). Student who does not pass in clinical practice the first time has the right to one renewed placement.
