Entry requirements

Completed studies comprising 120 credits in subjects with relevance for the project work. The course can be applied for continuously but is given only if supervisors are available; the applicant must enclose a certificate from the director of studies showing that supervisor and project description have been approved.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student should, with some support, be able to:

• search and summarise scientific literature

• plan and carry out a scientific experiment

• analyse scientific facts

• present scientific results in written and oral form

Content

The student will under the guidance of a researcher during 20 weeks participate in a specified project. By studying literature assigned by the supervisor, the student will obtain an understanding of the theoretical background of the project.

Instruction

Laboratory work and self-study under supervision. Participation in seminars relevant to the subject of the project assigned by the supervisor. The teaching can be given completely or partly in English.

Assessment

For a Pass grade, the student should fulfil the learning outcomes of the course. This includes presenting the project work as a seminar within the group where the work has been carried out. Furthermore, a report should be written and approved by the examiner. The grade passed or failed is given by the examiner after consultation with the supervisor.
