60 credits within Technology including Electronics I or equivalent.

Learning outcomes

After a successfully completed course the student should be able to:

  • identify and analyse important analogue circuit blocks,
  • analyse amplifiers and their frequency behaviour,
  • describe and apply basic oscillator circuits,
  • use integrated circuits (IC) and voltage regulators,
  • describe the high frequency behaviour of passive and active components.

Content

Equivalent circuit models of active components. Analysis and design of circuits using bipolar- or field-effect transistors: differential stage, current mirrors, amplifiers, cascade and cascode stages, power amplifiers, Darlington. Frequency dependent circuits, Bode diagrams. Feedback, stability and oscillators. Integrated circuits and voltage regulators, current limitation. Noise in passive and active components. Circuit simulation using SPICE.

Instruction

Lectures, calculus exercises, laboratory exercises.

Assessment

Written test at the end of the course (4 credits), laboratory exercises (1 credit).
