Learning outcomes

The course will provide basic knowledge in psychiatry as a basis for future activities as a physiotherapist

The student should on completion of the course

1. Have a readiness to meet individuals with mental ill-health and suicidal behaviour

2. Be able to identify eating disorder, substance abuse and dependence

3. Recognise mood disorders, anxiety disorders and psychotic disorders

4. Have knowledge of the interplay between physical and mental ill-health

5. Have overall knowledge of methods for assessment and treatment of mental disorders

Content

Introduction to psychiatry; Classification and overview of psychiatric syndrome; Mood disorders; Anxiety disorders; Psychotic disorders; Personality disorders; Substance abuse and dependence; Eating disorders; Child and adolescent psychiatry; Psychosomatics and chronic pain; Somatisation disorders.

Instruction

Lectures, webbledtures and seminars.

Assessment

Individual webbased examination with oral follow-up in group afterwards.

Students who have not passed the examination are offered to sit for further examinations 4 times (=total of 5 examinations). If the student can adduce special reasons the programme committee can admit an additional examination. Every time the student actually sits for an examination will be counted as an examination. Submission of a so called blank test is counted as an examination.
