Learning outcomes
After a successfully completed course the student should be able to:
- identify the purpose and function of various structures,
- analyse rods, shafts, beams and simple trusses with respect to internal forces, stresses and deformations,
- apply the handbook solutions for beams,
- design structures to avoid failure by plastic deformations and elastic instability.
Content
Axially loaded rods. Linear elastic material. Simple trusses. Torsion of circular shafts. Bending of beams. Elastic instability of beams. Design requirements.
Instruction
Lectures, lessons, assignments and laboratory work.
Assessment
Assignments (1 credit), written examination (9 credits). Laboratory work.
