Learning outcomes

After a successfully completed course the student should be able to:

  • describe the structure, requirements, governing and accounting documentation in accordance with environmental management systems ISO 14001 (International Organization for Standardization) and EMAS (eco-management and audit scheme)
  • show how an environmental management system in a given organisation can be implemented,
  • explain basic concepts and terminology of project management and how projects are planned and implemented,
  • plan and implement a project of investigative nature,
  • reflect on the implementation form of environmental management from a project perspective, linked to the overall environmental performance.

Content

Introduction to the environmental management systems EMAS (eco-management and audit scheme, the EU Regulation) and ISO 14001 (International Organization for Standardization, a global consortium) and their applications. Basic methods and concepts in project management, including planning methods, goals, organisation, project planning, time management, risk management and documentation. Execution of a small project in a team and reflection on how projects regarding the introduction of environmental management system are managed and administered in practice.

Instruction

Lectures, excercises and writing a report with a feedback.

Assessment

Written assignments (2 credits), oral and written presentation of a project work (2 credits) as well as written test (1 credit).
