General provisions
The course is elective and consists of clinical placement and is included in the specialist nursing programme with focus on oncology care, 60 credits. The course can also be implemented in an international exchange programme.
Entry requirements
Passed courses Nursing and Oncology in oncological diseases I, 7.5 credits
Nursing and Oncology in oncological diseases II, 7.5 credits
Specific nursing with specialisation in psychosocial cancer care, 7.5 credits
Specific nursing with specialisation in palliative care, 7.5 credits
Contact nurse in cancer care 7.5 credits
Theory and methodology in caring sciences 7.5 credits
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- have knowledge about cooperation in the chain of care in oncology care
- have knowledge about oncology nursing
- be able to identify and assess independently the patient's need and resources, plan, implement and coordinate oncology nursing in collaboration with close relations and other personnel categories in the chain of care, according to best available evidence
- be able to implement independently medical prescriptions in oncology care
- be able to apply safety aspects during cytotoxin treatment and radiology treatment
- with a professional and empathetic approach be able to meet and communicate with patients and their close relations
- be able to evaluate his/her knowledge, own achievements and ability to perceptiveness and cooperation and identify the need of continued knowledge development and personal development

Clinical placement in
- Oncology and/or haematology ward
- Radiotherapy Department
- The Cytotoxin reception
- Palliative unit
Instruction
Supervision by specialist nurse in collaboration with clinical lecturer/clinical senior lecturer
Literature studies
Preparation of a short essay
Seminars
COMPULSORY PARTS
Introduction to course, seminars, proficiency training, clinical placement, study assignments including written and oral presentation.
Assessment
Examination of the course includes assessment of knowledge, skills and attitudes according to learning outcomes formulated by the students AssCE-Form (Löfmark, A. et Thorell-Ekstrand, I. 2009), study assignments and clinical examinations related to the learning outcomes of the course.
