Entry requirements

Basic course in cell biology and Cell Biology I, 7.5 credits, or a corresponding cell biology course. A certificate from the director of studies at the department, stating that the student has a supervisor and an approved project plan, is also required.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, the student should be able to write a scientific report based on the ability to integrate and synthesize causal relationships in biological processes. When applicable, interpretation of own experimental results will also be included.

Content

The student will perform an in-depth study under individual supervision, either practical and theoretical or purely theoretical in a current cell biology subject.

The course consists of a theoretical and/or an experimental part. The theoretical part includes course literature chosen in consultation with the supervisor. The experimental part is performed under the guidance of the supervisor.

Instruction

The taught elements are designed specifically for each student by the supervisor assigned by the department. The experimental part of the course takes place within the framework of the ongoing research at the department.

The studies can be conducted as part-time studies.

Assessment

Literature studies and/or the experimental work are summarized in a shorter essay written as a scientific report. The supervisor is responsible for the assessment.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
