15 credits environmental science, earth science or biology
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- Describe basic scientific theory
- Describe and apply some common qualitative and quantitative methods for collection and analysis of data
- Give a critical reflection on scientific work, including ethical aspects.
Content
The course is dealing with scientific theory and the scientific working process, including interdisciplinary work. A number of qualitative and quantitative methods used within environmental science are presented. This includes basic exercises in collection and handling of data. Ethical perspectives and critical reflection on scientific approaches, implementations and documentation are also important themes in the course.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and exercises.
Assessment
Written assignments (2 credits), participation in seminars (1 credit) and practical methodological exercises (2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
