Entry requirements
A pass in all compulsory components/examinations/assessments in semester 1, 2, 3.
A pass in all except one compulsory component/examination/assessment in semester 4.
A pass in clinical placement in semester 4.
At least 115.5 credits.
Learning outcomes
The course is intended to provide advanced knowledge in scientific methodology and physiotherapy. Students have to plan and document a delimited project in the form of a project plan, under supervision.
On completing the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. give an account of qualitative and quantitative research designs.
2. give an account of basic descriptive and analytical statistical and qualitative analytical methods.
3. compile information, formulate issues, choose and justify research design and method based on issues and type of data in a project plan for a delimited research project.
4. present research-ethical considerations in their project plan.
5. present their own project plan in writing.
6. review, evaluate and discuss their own and others' project plans.
Content
Scientific methodology and research designs, statistics, research-ethical guidelines and critical review of research projects.
Instruction
The course is given in the form of lectures and project supervision in groups of two students.
Assessment
Approved statistical assignment (intended course learning outcome 2)
Approved written project plan (intended course learning outcomes 1, 3, 4, 5)
Approved critical review of another project plan (intended course learning outcome 6)
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may decide to make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. Special circumstances can include notification of special educational support from the university disability coordinator.
