Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe energy from a historic, political and geographical perspective with respect to resources, production and usage
- account for basic energy concepts
- evaluate and compare energy resources from a sustainability perspective
- apply system theory on different energy system on different levels
Content
The course provides knowledge about energy conversion from a sustainability and system perspective. In the course system theory, basic energy concepts and different scales of energy systems are reviewed. The course also gives insight into how energy has been produced and used historically, political challenges associated with it as well as the geographic spread of resources needed for energy production. Tools and strategies to evaluate energy sources based on their sustainability are also provided.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and exercises
Assessment
Active participation in seminars and hand-in assignments (3 credits), and a written exam (2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
