Furthermore, students must have completed all earlier courses in the programme.

Learning outcomes

On completing the course, students are expected to be able to:

1. give a general account of evidence and proven experience and justify a number of issues in a delimited field in physiotherapy

2. describe and justify research design and method pertaining to specific questions

3. seek, compile and evaluate information in a limited field in physiotherapy

4. collect/process and analyse data in a delimited scientific thesis

5. present a delimited scientific project in writing and orally 6. review, evaluate and discuss their own and other students' research projects at an equivalent level, as well as scientific literature in a global perspective

7. make research-ethical considerations based on current guidelines

8. relate the results of their own research project, as well as the results of other research projects at an equivalent level, to clinical and social aspects

Content

The main content of the course is to accomplish a scientific degree project in physiotherapy based on a previously designed project plan. The degree project is to be documented in writing and defended orally at a seminar. The course includes peer review of another degree project, as well as discussing scientific methods and literature at seminars.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of seminars and supervised project work in pairs (groups of two students).

Assessment

  • Active participation in seminars and completed seminar assignments (intended learning outcomes 4 and 6).
  • Approved written degree project (intended learning outcomes 1-8)
  • Approved oral defence of degree project (intended learning outcomes 1-8)
  • Approved written and oral peer review of another degree project (intended learning outcomes 6 and 8)
  • Participation in three assessment seminars in addition to the defence of the student's own degree project and the peer review of another degree project (intended learning outcomes 6 and 8)

Students who have failed an examination have the right to take the examination another four (4) times, i.e. to attempt the examination a total of five (5) times. Every time the student participates in an examination is regarded as an examination attempt. Submission of a 'blank' examination paper counts as an examination attempt. A maximum of one (1) retake opportunity is arranged per semester. If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can permit an additional examination after five (5) failed examinations. The student has the right to request a change of examiner after two failed examinations.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may decide to make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
