Having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:

-Identify roles of the business sector in economic development with particular focus on growth and sustainability,

-Understand specific conditions that business firms have to relate to in different settings globally, with specific focus on multinational companies,

-Understand, communicate and discuss concepts and theories related to the research field international business,

-Use acquired skills and insights when critically examining cases of how business firms may act in different cultural and socioeconomic settings as well as in relation to society's different sectors,

Content

The course focus concerns central aspects of international business management as well as a discussion on the role of the business sector in economic and social development in general and in local and regional development in particular. Various aspects on international management in different cultural and socio-economic contexts as well as in relation to society's different sectors are presented and illustrated trough cases, papers and books as well as lectures and seminars.

Instruction

The course consists of compulsory seminars and lectures. The students work in teams and individually, and are expected to be active both during and in between seminars. The course will both include written and oral presentations. The language of instruction is English.

Assessment

The student will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits.

The performance in the course will be evaluated on the basis of individual and group presentations. Seminar and case assignments are used in group tasks in which students analyse articles and cases. Participation in class discussions is taken into account. The course grades are Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) or Fail (U). The grades are based on an equal evaluation of individual and group performance. If the grade is Fail, complementary assignments are required, which are similar to the ones required during the course, but in writing. These should be completed during the same semester as the course is given. Examinations handed in late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (all examinations included) must be retaken during subsequent course sections.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the university's disability coordinator.

Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.

NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
