Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires a pass in the courses Physiotherapy I (3PT013) and Psychology I (2PS608).

In addition, all previous courses on the program are required to be completed.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

1. apply physiotherapy measures from a biopsychosocial perspective based on medical complication risks and diseases adapted to disabilities in the respiratory and circulatory organs as well as the musculoskeletal system.

2. reflect on own values and attitudes in the professional role as a physiotherapist.

3. based on analysis and clinical reflection adapt physiotherapy measures as well as demonstrate the ability to identify the need for additional knowledge.

4. apply risk preventive and ergonomic measures.

5. apply laws, statutes and guidelines governing health care as well as document and communicate physiotherapy measures.

Content

The course covers 11 weeks (16.5 credits) including clinical placement and contains:

  • The physiotherapy work process in diseases adapted to disabilities in the respiratory and the circulatory organs as well as the musculoskeletal system.
  • Examination, assessment, preventive and treatment measures and evaluation.
  • Application of behavioural medicine and educational methods.
  • Clinical reflecting, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Documentation in connection with patient care.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures, practical training, seminars and clinical placement. The work is done both individually and in groups. The contents of the lectures may constitute a basis for examination also in those cases when attendance is not compulsory.

Assessment

  • Passed written examinations that examine aims 1, 3, 4, 5.
  • Passed oral/practical examination of physiotherapy examination, treatment and evaluation methods that examine 1, 3, 4, 5.
  • Attendance and active participation in compulsory seminars during the theoretical parts of the course examining aims 1, 2, 3, 5.
  • Passed clinical placement that examines aims 1, 2, 3, 4,5.

Students who have failed the examination have the right to undergo renewed examination further 4 times (=totalt 5 the examination occasions). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit additional examination. Each time the student participates in an examination is counted as one examination attempt. Submission of a so-called blank exam is counted as an examination attempt. The student has right to request a change of examiner after two failed examinations.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
