Entry requirements

22.5 credits in Placement Studies and following courses: Development and Conditions of Education for Lower and Upper Secondary School; Curriculum Studies for the Bridging Teacher Education Programme

Learning outcomes

The course intends to further develop and specialise both the students' ability to meet pupils as well as to provide further knowledge of factors that govern and shape pupils' learning. The course aims further to develop the students' ability and knowledge to handle group processes and conflict management. The course shall develop the students' ability to reflect on their own learning and development of their own professional competence. Further, the course intends to develop the students' ability to interact with colleagues, parents and guardians.

On completion of the course, students should be able to

  • deal with and encounter pupils in a very good and professional manner
  • show self-knowledge and empathy in meetings with the individual pupil
  • independently plan, carry out, document and evaluate teaching (based on regulatory documents, research and proven experience)
  • have knowledge of the routines of the current school for performance reviews based on the pupils' individual study plans
  • demonstrate the ability to identify and analyse pupils' differences from a special needs education perspective
  • use multi-modal forms of expression (e g digital teaching resources and aesthetic modes of expression) in educational activities as well as demonstrate the ability to evaluate didactic consequences
  • plan, carry out and evaluate teaching in order to make clear classroom management in different situations
  • show knowledge of group processes and conflict management as well as evaluate different strategies and their consequences when managing groups
  • identify and reflect on his or her need of further knowledge and show how his or her professional competence has developed
  • show very good ability to engage in dialogues with colleagues and, if opportunity is given, with parents/guardians.

Instruction

The course is carried out in the form of classroom observations and teaching under supervision by local teacher educators (LLU), participation in other aspects of teaching, self-study, documentation and seminars.

Assessment

The student is examined and assessed in relation to the aim of the course. This is done by a review of scientifically-based Placement Studies Report and by consultation of the teacher educators of the school.

The placement studies course requires compulsory attendance and active participation.

Student who has failed placement studies is offered the possibility for an additional examination. If special circumstances apply, the Faculty Board of Educational Sciences can grant the student yet another occasion on request.
