Regarding knowledge and understanding the student is expected to be able to

  • account for basic concepts in human-computer interaction,
  • describe and explain important design principles and evaluation methods for user interfaces,
  • describe the role of human-computer interaction within system development,
  • explain the importance of the organisational context for the creation of usable computer systems.

Regarding competence and skills the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course

  • justify choices of design principles in the work with interface solutions,
  • apply selected evaluation and development methods in interface design.

Regarding judgement and approach the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course

  • analyse and evaluate design solutions based on the users' needs in a particular context,
  • describe and analyse different ways to apply knowledge from the field of human-computer interaction in a systems development project.

Content

The course will give the students an overview of fundamental concepts used within HCI with particular focus on the role of HCI in organisational context. That means taking a closer look at usability and interactive technologies through information gathered from the users. The course will focus on user centered approaches to development considering human needs, thought processes and real life situations as necessary components of digital systems. The course will provide the students with the relevant design principles, development methods and evaluation methods required to conceptualize their own products.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, project work.

Assessment
