Entry requirements

General entry requirements

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • find and evaluate information about wind resources
  • identify and theoretically describe meteorological wind phenomena
  • account for and evaluate different wind measurement methods for collection and analysis of wind data
  • describe and discuss the modelling of physical parameters in different wind energy calculation methods
  • analyse and account for limitations, possibilities and sensitivity in calculation methods and wind measurement methods

Content

The course covers basic wind resource knowledge. This includes applied meteorology, the concept of wind energy, application of wind resource maps and micro siting used for wind resource assessment. Furthermore, different wind resource calculation methods are studied as well as wind measurement techniques used to calculate and assess the wind resource. The student analyses and discusses possibilities and limitations concerning wind resource assessment based on estimations from meteorological conditions, measurements and calculation methods.

Instruction

The course is given as a net based course. Assignments are submitted in the e-classroom on Internet and the student are given personal feedback by the tutors. A forum for discussion is available.

Assessment

Written hand-in assignments and forum posts (6 credits), and written exam (1.5 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The course cannot be included in the same degree as 1GV077, Wind Power Energy 1 or 1GV124 Wind Resources.
