Entry requirements
120 credits in science/engineering. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to
- develop a working business model for a given product or service,
- identify business opportunities for companies working with new technologies,
- compare and negotiate financing options for new business development, during various phases of an entrepreneurial business development,
- use market data and competitive signals to adjust the strategic plan and more tightly focus business tactics,
- perform elevator pitches and business presentations.
Content
Business models and their fundamental components, including analysis of current business models used in different industries. Synthesis of new business models and their role as driving force for innovation in traditional and new industries. Business opportunities and business models for companies working with emerging technologies. Patents and other intellectual property rights (IPR). Computer simulation covering start up and running of an international company, negotiation of funding through role-playing game. Adjustment of strategic plans according to market data and competitive signals.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and project supervision.
Assessment
Oral and written presentation of project work 1 (2 credits) and project work 2 (3 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
