Entry requirements
Minimum 37.5 credits of passed courses within the Master's programme in Forensic Science, or corresponding. This corresponds to in-depth knowledge of human genetics, forensic genetics, forensic medicine, analytical chemistry and how testimonies and technical evidence are collected, analysed and evaluated in criminal cases.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the thesis project is to provide the student with knowledge of how to initiate, plan, carry out and present scientific work using a scientific approach.
After examination, the student should be able to:
- search and critically evaluate scientific literature
- compile scientific literature relevant to the project
- plan and execute a scientific study
- analyse scientific data
- discuss scientific data
- present scientific data and conclusions in written and oral form
- make assessments with regard to relevant social and ethical aspects and apply research ethical principles to their own work
Content
The work includes, writing a project plan, search, evaluate and summarise scientific literature, perform experimental research, summarise data and critically evaluate the results. The project will be presented orally and as a written report.
Instruction
The degree project is an individual assignment and is carried out under supervision and include literature studies, seminar exercises and practical work.
Assessment
The degree project should be presented in the form of a thesis written in English according to instructions for a scientific journal. The degree project is also presented orally.
Passing the course requires:
The examiners approval of the plan, presentation, essay and peer review. Attendance is compulsory at all the examination seminars by other students.
Students who have failed the examination have the right to go through examination further 4 times (= total 5 examinations). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit to additional examinations. Each occasion the student participates in an examination is regarded as an examination attempt. Submission of so-called blank exam is counted as examination.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
