Entry requirements
120 credits of which 90 credits in science/engineering including Meteorology, Hydrology, Environmental Measurement Techniques, 15 credits, and Soil Science, 15 credits. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give practical knowledge of estimations of runoff from natural catchments as from catchments under human impact.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain and analyse runoff generation from different surfaces
- calculate runoff from natural areas and areas impacted by humans
- perform statistical analyses of hydrological data
- apply a runoff model
- analyse a runoff models strengths and limitations
Content
Theories of runoff formation. Methods for calculating runoff from natural catchments and paved surfaces. Dynamic-wave calculations. Statistical methods. Runoff modelling. Dimensioning the flows. Urban hydrology. Transport of pollutants in surface waters. Impact of human activities on runoff.
Instruction
Lectures, lessons and computer exercises.
Assessment
Written examination at the end of the course (4 credits) and exercises (1 credit).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
