Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits, including 30 credits in chemistry, and 30 credits in biology or biotechnology. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is for students to acquire practical knowledge and skills in analysing and evaluating outcomes and results of bioprocess experiments in industrial settings.
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- plan and carry out analysis of a bioprocess experiment in an industrial setting
- summarise, explain and critically evaluate analytical methods for biological molecules
- explain and evaluate economic, safety and environmental consequences of chosen analytical methods
Content
The course trains students in various analytical methods for biological molecules, such as antibodies and enzymes. The students will plan and carry out analysis of a biomolecule. Introduction to bioprocess experiments in an industrial setting, safety and planning. Instrumentation and methods in analytical bioprocesses. Evaluation and calculations.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and laboratory session in an industrial setting.
Assessment
Active participation in seminars (1 credit); active participation in laboratory session including written and oral presentation (1 credit).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the university's disability coordinator.
Other directives
This course can be read separately or together with the courses: Experimental Industrial Bioprocess I - Design 3 credits, Experimental Industrial Bioprocess II - Cultivation and Harvest 2 credits.
