Entry requirements
120 credits in science/engineering, including 60 credits in electrical engineering. 10 credits at advanced level in electrical engineering (may be taken in parallel). Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the functionality of heavy electric vehicles, their drivelines and charging: trucks, working machines and buses,
- critically and independently assess the challenges and opportunities that exist for driving and charging needs as well as the charging infrastructure for heavy electric vehicles,
- describe the Swedish electrical grid and how to handle charging of heavy electric vehicles,
- describe how different heavy vehicles differ when it comes to their use and function and suggest, based on the user's needs, charging and driveline possibilities,
- discuss environmental, societal and ethical aspects.
Content
Challenges and opportunities with the electric drive of heavy road vehicles. Features of the driveline for electric buses, trucks, and work machines. Power and energy requirements, efficiency, power loss/drop and security. Heavy electric vehicles in use today. Relevant societal, environmental and ethical aspects.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, laboratory work.
Assessment
Written exam, laboratory work and seminar.
If there are special reasons for doing so, the examiner may make exceptions from the specified examination method of assessment and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
