Entry requirements

140 credits, which of 90 credits in science/technology. Participation in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to

  • analyse and critically evaluate the special conditions for entrepreneurship in the raw materials industry from a sustainability perspective
  • evaluate effectuation as an entrepreneurial action strategy, especially in the raw material industry and from a sustainability perspective, in relation to other strategies
  • problematise the pros and cons of working in local networks of actors - authorities, organisations and companies, with a special focus on sustainable development
  • discuss the meaning of value and value creation from particularly an ethical and sustainability perspective
  • analyse and evaluate the role and relevance of business control and monitoring systems and how to handle accounting and financial management in new ventures

Content

Effectuation as an action strategy and theoretical perspective on entrepreneurship. Different perspectives on service companies and business development, especially from a sustainability perspective. Different strategies for entrepreneurial ventures and business development in the raw materials sector. Models and tools for the analysis of markets and identify business opportunities in the raw materials industry, especially from a sustainability perspective. Development of sustainable business in collaboration with local and regional actors, including authorities and other major organisations. Ethical perspectives on entrepreneurship in the raw materials industry, especially from a sustainability perspective. Models for basic economic analysis and budgeting principles in new ventures and business development. Legal challenges for business activities in the raw materials industry. Collaboration with subcontractors and partners with regards to various management and management functions within the company.

Instruction

Lectures, guest lectures, seminars and supervision of project work.

Assessment

Written exam (2 credits). Assigments, seminars and written and oral presentation of project work (3 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted study support from the disability coordinator of the university.
