Learning outcomes
The course intends to provide elementary knowledge in Old Persian.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- translate Old Persian text in transcription into Swedish or English
- analyse Old Persian nominal forms by means of the categories gender, number, and case
- analyse Old Persian verbal forms by means of the categories tense, aspect, mood, person, and aktionsart and account for the syntax of these forms
- account for the basic sentence structure in Old Persian
- know the names of the most important Old Persian inscriptions and approximately when they came into being.
Content
Overview of the Old Persian grammar and reading of selected Old Persian inscriptions in transcription.
Instruction
The teaching is in the form of lectures and practical exercises.
Assessment
Examination is conducted through a written examination.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Other directives
The course may not be included in a higher education qualification as an independent course if equivalent parts have been studied within another course that is included in the higher education qualification.
