General entry requirements

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

• explain what characterizes a project including project roles, project methods and project documentation, with focus on technological development and implementation projects,
• plan, lead, implement and document a project in technology-intensive organizations and companies, including  working and steering group meetings and conducting a stakeholder analysis,
• present a project orally and in writing,
• identify and analyse the group dynamic process at individual and group level, including their own role in the project group,
• describe and analyse their motivating value system, as well as their learning and conflict management styles,
• give an account of the significance of diversity within a group to obtain best possible result for a projcet,
• give an account of the signifigance of interpersonal communication and give constructive feedback,
• describe the form, function and significance of leadership in a group and for a project.

Content

Part 1: Project knowledge and project work:

This component looks at various project models, project organisation, aids and documents used in technical development or implementation projects. Agile project methods. Groupwise implementation of industry related projects, including pilot study, project plan, division of labor, information search, interview techniques, documentation, meeting techniques, follow-up, risk analysis, requirement specification, goal formulation, stakeholder analysis, time planning, activity breakdown, writing of project report and presentation of the project. The projects and the applications will have an emphasis on technology-intensive activites, which makes it important to consider technological aspects. 

Part 2: Leadership in groups: Learning styles, motivational value systems and conflict styles. Project leadership from an individual and group perspective, interpersonal communication, group dynamics, roles, conflict management and feedback. Improvement knowledge. Leadership theories. Cultural beliefs and diversity. Central aspects of this part is the application av the theories and methodologies connection to the industrial context.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars/workshops and project supervision of project work in a group.

Assessment

Part 1: Active participation in seminars/workshops (1 credits) and written and oral presentation of the project work (3 credits). Written exam (1 credit).

Part 2: Written assignments (3 credits) and active participation in seminars/workshops (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The course cannot be included in the same degree as 1TG230 Projects and Leadership, 5SD950 Projects and Leadership, 1TG283 Projects and Leadership, 1TG291 Projects and Leadership or 1TG299 Project Management and Leadership.
