Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to have received:
- a first training in doing their own research, presented in the form of an independently written essay
- in-depth knowledge of two different areas of philosophy.
Content
The course consists of three parts:
- Elective sub-course 1 (7.5 credits)
- Elective sub-course 2 (7.5 credits)
- Sub-course 3: C-essay (15 credits)
The elective sub-courses vary from semester to semester.
Instruction
The instruction consists of lectures and seminars for the elective sub-courses and of supervision and seminars for the essay course.
Assessment
For the assessment of the elective sub-courses, see under Other Directives. The assessment of the essay course (15 credits) is based upon the writing and defence of a scientific essay, and upon a critical oral discussion of another student's essay.
Other directives
The elective sub-courses also exist as separate courses with their own syllabi. Se see those syllabi for regulations as to the elective sub-courses.
The C-essay may be exchanged for two additional elective sub-courses, but this alternative does not fulfill the requirements for a degree of Bachelor's with practical philosophy as main field of study. The alternative is mainly for exchange students whose universities do not allow essays at this level of studies.
