Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of contemporary ethnological and folkloristic research, its theories and methods, as well as to discuss newer theoretical issues within the broader field of qualitative research on culture.
After completing the course, the participants are expected to:
- have acquired in-depth knowledge of contemporary methods and culture theories
- have acquired in-depth knowledge of recent major trends in neighboring scientific fields of research
- have developed their ability to independently discuss culture theoretical issues
- have developed their ability to independently problematize questions within the course area and report this in writing.
Content
The course presents contemporary culture theories and the application of these theories within the ethnological, folkloristic and neighboring research fields.
Instruction
Teaching is given in one or more of the following forms: lectures, seminars, laboratories, supervision. Participation in the teaching is compulsory at 75%. The language of instruction is English.
Assessment
The course is assessed in one or more of the following forms: homework, PM writing, group work, active seminar participation, oral exam.
For students who have not been approved at the regular exam, another exam will be held in close connection with this. The course uses the grade scale Passed with distinction, Passed or Failed.
