Entry requirements
180 credits, of which 90 credits in technology and 30 credits at Master's level in industrial engineering and management.Participation in Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Industrial Engineering and Management I. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course students should be able to
- evaluate and analyse concepts regarding scientific method,
- construct and implement a scientific study within industrial engineering and management that builds on qualitative and/or quantitative methods,
- evaluate and analyse scientific work in industrial engineering and management with regards to its methodological approach (from problem formulation to analysis of data),
- construct societally useful and scientific relevant questions in industrial engineering and management and analyse these,
- evaluate and analyse methodological approaches from ethical point of view, and explain awareness of research ethics as an important component of scientific method.
Content
Apply and discuss concepts regarding scientific method. Analyse and critically review scientific knowledge in industrial engineering and management, against the background of the methodological and ethical considerations on which this knowledge is based. Application of various qualitative and/or quantitative methods, including statistics and conducting a scientific study. The methods will be applied to problems within technology-intensive businesses.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and workshops.
Assessment
Active participation in seminars (2 credits) and written assignments (3 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
