Entry requirements

Bachelor degree of at least 180 credits, including 70 credits in physics, chemistry, material science and/or materials engineering and 20 credits in mathematics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. (A Swedish Bachelor's degree fulfils the requirement in English.)

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • explain the relevant concepts, theories and problems in the field of study,
  • analyse simple problems in the field of study,
  • identify one's own needs to further one's knowledge and take responsibility for progress in one's education.

Content

Individual studies on a project in materials engineering agreed upon by the student and teacher. The project includes basic theory for the chosen subject, which is assigned by the teacher/supervisor and further studies of scientific articles chosen by the student. The assigned material and literature study are presented orally and through a written report.

Instruction

The student is supervised by a teacher or researcher within the chosen topic, individually or in groups. Seminar for presentation of assigned material and literature study.

Assessment

Written report (5 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
