Entry requirements
120 credits including 90 credits in science/engineering. The courses "Additive Manufacturing in Polymeric Materials" and "Additive Manufacturing in Metallic and Ceramic Materials" should have been attended. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain and with guidance perform the steps that are part of a business-specific additive manufacturing chain,
- describe the process from design and raw materials to final product in a specific business,
- analyze and motivate strategic process choices based on, for example, product portfolio, business area, existing production systems and economical aspects,
- analyse and compare how the manufacturing chain is adapted for different types of businesses and products.
Content
Project course which is partly carried out on site outside Uppsala University. At least one company or institute is visited to see how additive manufacturing has been applied in practice within production or product development. The business model of the company or institute, and how it affects the process chain and the choice of equipment, is studied. Work with design and modeling in different software, preparation for writing, management of flows and risks with raw materials, application of post-processing and quality control at different companies and institutes are analyzed and compared. Practical work is carried out to the extent that it can be offered.
Instruction
Project work and seminars.
Assessment
Written report (2 credits). Active participation in seminars and oral presentation (3 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
