Learning outcomes
A student who successfully completes the course will be able to:
- use digital tools to analyse and present digitised and digitalised sources
- orally and in writing account for the content and context of sources for audiences outside as well as within the university
- assess and critically engage with the consequences of digitisation for historical research and the mediation of history
Content
The digital development has brought new possibilities to find, analyse and present historical source material.
At the same time, digitisation places new demands on the skills of those who work with studying and communicating history. It also raises ethical and practical questions about access, selection and representation. The course aims to provide students with the opportunity to practice both practical skills and a reflecting approach to the possibilities and limitations that digitisation brings to the field of history. Students will use various digital tools to create a digital exhibition. The course is conducted in collaboration with Uppsala University Library.
Instruction
Teaching consists of seminars and group assignments.
Assessment
Assessments will be based upon written and oral assignments. Students who have missed a small number of mandatory assignments may complete them by the end of the semester at the latest. If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may decide to make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
